Cooling Towers
Tundracel
The new Kelvion TUNDRACEL Co-Current Closed Circuit Evaporative Cooling Tower offers a premium quality waste water cooling solution that will boost heat transfer efficiency, while using less energy and water. Plate heat exchangers, cooling towers and dry coolers, in stainless steel designs or with adiabatic cooling, have proven to be efficient solutions for the cooling of process water and also for energy recovery.
Depending on the temperature difference between the water outlet and the ambient temperature, the given air humidity and the process fluid temperature, Kelvion, as an experienced technology leader for process cooling, offers both individual components and efficient system solutions.
TUNDRACEL, the latest innovation in the Kelvion portfolio, uses evaporative cooling to remove heat from a process stream. It is ideal for a wide range of heavy duty industries, including Oil & Gas, Refining, Petrochemical, and Power.
With the co-current closed circuit technology, the air helps to spread the water evenly over the entire surface of the tubes, thereby reducing scaling and fouling. As a result, electricity consumption is lower, reducing your environmental footprint and increasing production capacity.
Water costs are significantly lower with the TUNDRACEL, compared to the conventional cooling tower/PHE solutions, as it operates at high concentration cycles. This increases the number of times water can be reused. Also, our technology is designed to work with water of poor quality, such as blowdown water from a cooling tower, treated waste streams, plant effluent and even sea water, as make-up water.

Selecting a cooling tower
The water temperatures (hot water in and cold water out), the wet bulb temperature of the site of installation, the required water flow and the noise level are the 4 major factors in order to select a wet cooling tower. After analyzing your needs, we will propose the most appropriate technical and economic solution. There are Polacel CMDR standard solutions for every need starting from a water flow to cool of 90 m3/h. Our engineers can also make special adaptations of the standard cooling towers in order to meet the most specific of your needs. The various type of available heat exchange surfaces allows us to select a suitable fill whether of the “film” type or of the “splash” type . The heat exchange fill is chosen according to the quality of water to be cooled (clean or highly polluted water), but also depending on the specific environment of the site and considering to the process to be cooled. In all cases, a chemical treatment of the cooling water is required. This shall be implemented by a specialized company based on the maximum concentration values advocated by Kelvion.
Polacel CMDR = thermal performance certified by CTI STD-201
The thermal performance of Polacel CMDR cooling towers from Kelvion B.V. are certified according to the CTI STD-201 standard (Cooling Technology Institute). Certification is the assurance for our customers to have a cooling tower that cools the water at the required temperature. It eliminates costly in-situ performance tests. The Polacel CMDR cooling towers are equipped with axial fans driven by geared motors. The geared motors being usually controlled by variable speed drives, the Polacel CMDR cooling towers thus contribute to the reduction of operational costs (OPEX) of the tower and therefore of your entire installation.

Structural qualities
The advanced design engineering has also resulted in a number of special structural advantages:
- Only a minimum number of support points are necessary as a result of the self-supporting foundations and the high internal rigidity
- Where possible, fully portable and installed ready to go
- The Polacel frost-proof polyester water pan can withstand sub-zero temperatures. Essential for free-cooling applications
- Due to their low profile, cross flow cooling towers present fewer aesthetic problems
- The expandable modular system has virtually no limitations in terms of shape and size
- All structural design principles are analysed and tested in advance using dynamic calculations and computer studies
Durable and reliable
We design and manufacture cooling towers that have a long life and require a minimum of maintenance. This performance is achieved by a careful choice of materials – stainless steel combined with glass fibre reinforced polyester and plastics – the exceptionally sound design and the considerable experience of our engineers.
‘Cheap and cheerful’ solutions such as fans with a V-belt drive, or painted panels, are avoided. The result is a cooling tower that is low maintenance, economical and able to deliver a consistently high quality, problem free performance.
